We started painting the canvas 'summer beach waves' today. We learned how to paint waves with directional brush stroking, and the use of appropriate colours. We will add more elements such as the seashells to our painting next week :)

Children are happily taking their big apple paintings home. They explored elements such as lines, shapes and patterns in their creation. Love the vibrant colours!
(with reference to the NZ Visual Arts curriculum achievement objectives - developing practical knowledge and ideas in the Visual Arts) Today we enjoyed painting the butterflies. Some children attempted mixing colours and made pastel colours such as mint green, lavender and baby blue. Children experimented using a fine point brush to paint the butterflies for details and a large flat brush to paint the background with long vertical brush strokes.
Love those vibrant colours! We had so much fun making the hanging ornaments 'Sun & Moon'!
It's a project which combines painting and paper crafts. Ka pai to children's effort and enthusiasm! We've had a fantastic start of the term today - it was a productive afternoon with children working on two projects! We explored ideas such as warm/cool colours and painting with gradient colours. Some attempted to use the dabbing technique. We will continue to work on those projects in the next lesson.
